A Mountain Sunset: The Pinnacle of Natural Light

A Mountain Sunset by Dries Bentein

The photograph captured at Lago di Lago in Revine Lago epitomizes my deep admiration for shooting in backlight, especially during the golden hour — that magical time just before sunset when the light is at its softest and most beautiful, a phenomenon cherished universally.

Our journey to the lake was serendipitous, a spontaneous venture while exploring Northern Italy. Our accommodation was uniquely situated amidst prosecco vineyards, blending perfectly with the natural beauty of the region. Italy has always held a special place in my heart for its breathtaking landscapes and majestic mountains, drawing me in with its unparalleled beauty and charm.

Always eager to glean local insights, I often engage with residents to uncover hidden gems and lesser-known spots. It was during one of these conversations that Revine Lago was recommended — a tranquil haven known for its scenic lakeside trails. Lago di Lago and its adjacent counterpart, Lago di Santa Maria, awaited us as we embarked on our exploration.

As evening descended, so did the golden hour. While I had captured countless images during this magical time, witnessing the sunlight caress the mountain peaks left me momentarily spellbound, enveloped in a profound sense of awe. The light painted the landscape in hues of gold, prompting a rush to capture every fleeting moment in photographs.

Among the collection, this particular photo holds a special place in my heart. The subject, immersed in nature, gazes upon the stunning sunset over the Italian mountains. It encapsulates my emotions in that fleeting moment — the joy of witnessing nature's spectacle, the warmth of the setting sun, and the beauty of natural light. It's no wonder this image adorns the walls of my editing studio, serving as a constant reminder of that serene moment in time.

In essence, this photograph not only captures the soul of natural beauty but also serves as a personal reflection of the tranquility and wonder found in the mountains of Italy.
